Town Council Districts
Prior to the 2025 Election, the Town of Triana Town Council was elected “At-Large”, meaning voters selected a Mayor and five Councilmembers. The Town Council via Ordinance 2024-04 established the Town Council Districts for the Town of Triana. These Town Council Districts take effect for the August 2025 Elections. Candidates for Town Council must run in the District in which they live. Additionally, Voters will vote only for one candidate for Town Council from their district in addition to one candidate for Mayor. For example a ballot may look like:
Mayor (Select one)
[ ] Mayor Candidate A
[ ] Mayor Candidate B
District One (Select one)
[ ] Council Candidate A
[ ] Council Candidate A

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why did the Town change from “At-Large” to Districts?
A: The Town Council determined that the growth of the Town necessitated establishing election districts to ensure the Town Council was geographically represented across the Town.
- Q: How did the Town Council determine the districts?
A: The Town Council contracted with a Municipal Planning firm that specializes in Municipal Districting. The consultants examined the 2020 US Census data and recommended districts that equally divided the town and complied with Federal Voting laws in terms of numbers of voters and demographics. The Town Council held Public Hearings in 2024 and enacted an Ordinance to establish the Districts and then coordinated with the County and Secretary of State to update the Voter Records to reflect the districts.
- Q: I thought Candidates ran for Seats that were tied to Committee Chairs (e.g. Fire/Police, Utilities, Streets & Cemeteries, Finance, or Parks & Recreation)?
A: Council Candidates do not run for specific Committee Chairs. In the past, Candidates ran for specific Council Seats (Numbered 1-5). The Committee Chairs and Committee Assignments are made by the newly elected Mayor at the Organizational meeting which is held the 1st Monday in November.
- Q: When is a runoff required?
A: If no candidate for Mayor or a Council District receives a majority of the votes (greater than 50%), the Town will hold a runoff election for the top two Candidates will for that seat.
- Q: When will the Districts Change?
A: The Town is required to revaluate the Districts after every Federal Census.
